By Aidan Fitzgerald

 Travel / Destination

The choice of honeymoon destination will vary greatly between people and factors such as economic and social background play a major part in that choice of destination. In this article we list traditionally popular honeymoon destinations to help you withy your choice.

Hawaii

Hawaii still remains one of the most popular honeymoon destinations. You may choose to stay in a number of Hawaii's islands each with stunning beaches of different size , shape and sand colour. Try whale watching in Maui or surfing in Oahu or simply relax on the golden beaches of Kauai and Kohala, ideal for snorkelling and diving.

Mexico

Whether its culture or pure relaxation you are after, you will be spoiled for choice in Mexico. Enjoy the nightlife in Cancun or take a diving trip in Cozumel. The Mayan Riviera provides the perfect backdrop for those seeking a cultural experience. Surrounded by the Caribbean Sea, the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, a lazy beach honeymoon may be just for you.

Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia has been voted "Worlds Leading Honeymoon Destination" several times by World Travel Awards and it's hardly surprising. Sandy beaches , waterfalls, lush green vegetation, perfect sunsets, turquoise waters.... this tropical paradise has it all. The adventurous among you may explore the island on horseback, mountain bike or on foot.

The Bahamas

With more that 700 tropical islands to explore and boasting the clearest water on the plant, it is hardly surprising that The Bahamas is still one of the most popular honeymoon destinations. Enjoy the attractions that each individual island brings or simply laze the days away on the pristine beaches.

Dominican Republic

Studded with rain forests, towering mountains and about 300 kilometres of soft sandy beaches, the Dominican Republic is an ideal location to sit back and relax. You can also indulge in kite surfing, golf, casino hopping or sample a Mamajuana (local liquid party booster) by the pool. The island is also home to numerous nature parks and Saona Island is popular amongst honeymooners.

Tahiti

Nestled in the Pacific and still largely unexplored, Tahiti is one of the most popular honeymoon destinations. Also known as French Polynesia, Tahiti is famous for its overwater bungalows on stilts, where honeymooners can sleep above the lagoons torquoise waters. Explore the islands and lagoons by diving, snorkelling or boating.

Fiji

Fiji is the essence of romance. This island in the South Pacific is a popular destination for honeymooners. With its first class resorts, friendly people and beautiful beaches, honeymooners are spoiled for choice in Fiji. Snorkel, dive, surf or kayak the pristine waters of Fiji. You will receive the warmest of welcomes from the Fijians who greet everyone they meet with the famous "Bula".

Venice

One of the world's most romantic cities, Venice is the number one choice for honeymooners travelling to Europe. St Marks Square, the Rialto Bridge and gazing at the wonderful architecture of this historic city are some of the sights to behold. For honeymooners however, the top attraction has to be a gondola ride through Venices' famous waterways.

Paris

Whether it's a boat ride on the Seine, a visit to the Eifel Tower or a romantic stroll in the Left Bank, Paris is still a top destination for honeymooners. Paris is known as the city of love so why not take your other half up to Notre Dame or The Arc De Triomphe to admire breathtaking views of the city.

Antigua

Surrounded by a wall of coral reef, Antigua is another popular honeymoon destination chosen for its soft white sandy beaches, fantastic scuba diving and snorkelling. Boasting 365 coves and bays, it is said that there is a beach in Antigua for every day of the year.
