A cup is a unit of measurement used for cooking.  Here are some conversions that may help:

1 cup = 16 tablespoons
1 cup = 48 teaspoons

1 cup = 0.2366 liters (l)
1 cup = 2.366 deciliters (dl)
1 cup = 236.6 milliliters (ml)

1 cup = 8 Fluid Ounces (fl. oz.) (U.S. Liquid Measure)
1 cup = 8.327 Fluid Ounces (fl. oz.) (British Imperial Liquid & Dry)

1 cup = 0.5 pints (pts.) (U.S. Liquid Measure)
1 cup = 0.4297 pints (pts.) (U.S. Dry Measure)
1 cup = 0.4163 pints (pts.) (British Imperial Liquid & Dry)

As you can see, as usual, the Brits and the Yanks don't agree on measurements.  The Americans modified the British system so that it rounded evenly instead of coming out to weird decimals (i.e. in the U.S.: 2 cups = 16 Fl. Oz. = 1 pint, where for the British it would be: 2 cups = 16.65 Fl. Oz. = 0.8327 pints).

Since I don't know where you are from, and some of are visitors are from the far east, here's some more conversions:

1 cup = 1.312 go (Japanese)

1 cup = 2.366 ge (Chinese Imperial)*
*which interestingly equals 2.366 deciliters (dl)

1 cup = approx. 0.2366 tanan (Thai)

1 cup = 1.923 charka (Old Russian Liquid Measure)
1 cup = 0.07213 garnetz (Old Russian Dry Measure)

So, hopefully that helps.  If not, you'll just have to do a little experimentation.

Good luck!
