I remember when the eye of the hurricane Alicia came directly over Houston.

And then we had that Tropical Storm that decided to stall over the top of Houston and then just rain and rain and rain.  Interstate Highway 10 turned into the I-10 Bayou!

Can you believe some people actually stay in the path of a huricane ON PURPOSE!  These people are crazy!

I was in the last Hurrican that his Belize about two or three years ago that killed a couple of people because the ower of the boat they worked on told them that if they got off they would loose their jobs and would not bring the boat in to dock so the people could get off.  There were several tourists involved as well.  He has since been charged for that incident (an American Guy too)

It's sad that there are people like that in the world.

But that goes to show you that no matter how arrogant you may be, mother nature still has the upper hand.

I know that here in the states there are people who will purposely stay in the path of a hurricane to ride it out, even after the authorities have ordered everyone to evacuate the area.  Luckily most of them survive, but I'm sure that some have died doing it.

I remember Hurricane David in the 1980's and one called Hurricane Alan in the 80's as well. I left home the same year that Hurricane Hugo devasted Montserrat in 1989 but from all accounts it was horrible.

Well, my dad stayed in Florida through all of the hurricanes that hit there!  He had some damage to his house, but he was pretty lucky.  Just some missing roof tiles and torn screens.

I survive Hurricane Hugo in 1989; I made it through some smaller category ones; I stood outdoors doing Recon during Bertha in 2005(after Marilyn)( in the eye of the storm as they say, its so serene and peaceful, something to really watch); but the worst one for me was Hurricane Marilyn(2005), she was a be-a-tch; I was never more scared in all fo mey life and to see the destruction afterwards, was utter disbelief. To see human bodies along the waterfront(people who decide to ride the storm in their boats). During the aftermath, I had to do Recon, and it was not easy, I had to down a few hot heinekens(no power for a cold one)to make it through the first 2 weeks.

Several, but the worse one was Hugo. People went crazy afterwards. Looting, looting, looting.

I even wrote a poem on the looting and it was published
in the newspaper. Here goes:

THE AFTERMATH

It's not that we did not give a hoot
When they said we went out to loot
We were confused
Seeking refuge
From the devastation of Hugo
We had no place to go
Since we had no roof over our head
Wondering tonight where we will bed
And how our children will be fed
We were scared
Trying to comprehend
If this was of the devil or Godsend
When we saw our beautiful Virgin Isle
Reduced to ruins for miles and miles
We thought we were in a strange place
And so we sought solace
By helping ourselves
From off the shelves
Asking in despair
When will we ever get back there
After Hugo went on the warpath
We just couldn't believe the aftermath

Great Poem Sandy...I can recall in Nick Friday's Lyrics " Hugo Made Me A Dan" ...You need to write one about that Terrible Woman called MARILYN...she really brought us down in 1995 in STThomas..even the Richest Man needed to stand in line for Relief...

First step, you get your high school diploma, then your associate, then bachelor's, then Masters, then doctorate. Oh, and if there is any degree higher than a ph.d, go for it. As I said, reach for the sun, moon and stars - and even beyond the stars.

Ooops! In whatever field you chose.

Sorry, I'm lazy to use cap lock sometimes.

Funny ... my mom and granny had theirs too! But where would you be running to Harmac?
I've never experienced one though ... thank God ... from the stories I've heard, it is frightening ... you just lose all control ... and nature is in charge.
September is worse from what I recall ... and my granny, don't ask her to go to no public building - she trusts her house better as she recalls those who went for shelter in churches or schools and did not survive, when their homes did!!
