this is one for you, as we been told a CD life is a few years say 20 years, a person who collects music seem to be in trouble. an LP don't seem to have a shelf life , yet they seem to want to discontinue. so how do you collect music for posterity.  I know i am in hot water because i have about 3,000 CD's and about the same in LP's. and frankly all my LP i have from the 50's and later is in pristine condition. Now i am worried about my CD collection.
Big Question, to your knowledge do you know of a modern format that has longevity?.

Longevity, I think LP's. But I guess they'll come up with some new technology.

And I remembered that they used to advertise that they last forever and are scratch-proof when they first came out. lol

One good way to back them up is to "rip" your CDs and store the music on your hard drive.  This would be a good way to back it up.  Also, if you have a CD burner, you could easily burn the music onto new CDs if the original CDs fails for some reason.

Windows Media Player makes it easy to backup and copy your songs from the CDs.  You could try that and see if that works for you.  If you "rip" them and store copies of them on your computer, I would still keep the CDs.  That way you have a backup if either fails.

I don't know much about this technology thingamagoo, but before the 'flash drive', there was the floppy disk, then the CDrom. Maybe they'll come up with something to preserve your Cd data, playing.
