Welcome to CaribbeanChoice Blue Parrot.

I'm not from St. Kitts but I can tell you that they have running water, groceries and stores there.   No Walmart that I know of, though.

I'll try to find some natives who can answer your questions.

Hi there. :)  My family is from St. Kitts and I have been going down since I was a child.

You might find the following websites helpful.

Yes, there are places to buy cars, groceries, clothes, medicine, etc.  Sometimes it takes awhile to get supplies as they come in weekly on containers.  Don't expect big malls, theatres, bowling alley's, etc.

There is a market in Basseterre where you can purchase fish from the local fisherman and veggies.  The lobster in St. Kitts is delicious.

Kittians are very friendly and helpful.  The island and beaches are beautiful.  There are lots of fun beach bars you can enjoy as well as sister island of Nevis.

A school I highly recommend is The Montessori School.

The forecast always shows rain.  St. Kitts has a rainforest and one part of the island can be raining and the other part of the island is dry.  The rain shower only last for a few minutes.

Will you be working in St. Kitts or going to school?

Hi Liz..
thanks for the reply and the info.. I will check them out a little later..
I am going there to worka nd my children are 15 and 6 and will need schools..
I assume the Montesourri will accomodate the 6 yr old.. My 15 yr old I assume will need to go into a 6th form College of sorts..??One%20Eyebrow
Do they have fresh meat markets or buthchers there?
And can you tell me if the electric there is on the American 110 or British240V current..it is a British colony, no?

Some people have said it's best to get a car and being an island, I wasnt sure, but if I stay in Freiburg, that would be pretty far to get to markets etc in Basseterre, noConfused]?

Thanks for yr time again..
Bill

The Caribbean Room and Pirate Room are the most active and are for general discussions.  That is where most people hang out.  So for general discussions and chit chat, those are best.  The other forums are less busy, but more specialized.

You can either subscribe to an entire forum or the specific threads (topics).

For everything you want to know (and probably more) about subscribing and unsubscribing, see How to Subscribe/Unsubscribe from Forums & Forum Topics.

And about St. Kitts:

Electricity: 230 volts, 60 cycles. Most hotels have 110 volts, and converters are available.

And don't say "British colony" too loudly.  Noone likes to be thought of as a colony.  "Former British colony" is accurate, but St. Kitts & Nevis is an independent country now.  They became independent in 1983.

And the Montessori school website says that it goes up to Grade 6, if I am reading it right.

Hope that helps.
