Question Do you think God is down with the Death Penalty

"Capital punishment is ordained by God. It is a divine system to create respect, reverence and fear of the law. When people have no respect and they feel as if they can do anything they want to do, it will cause things to become chaotic like where we are now heading. If we don't put a stop to [crime], it is going to affect us drastically and to start off, hangings should be done. If the government doesn't want to do it, take it off the books!" The last person to be hanged in The Bahamas was David Mitchell, on Jan. 6, 2000, according to Stephanie Pratt, public relations officer at Her Majesty's Prison. Since 1973, sixteen convicted murderers have been executed in The Bahamas - six of those in the last ten years." end quote

That was the charge of Bahamas Christian Council President Bishop John Humes, who, like most locals, is outraged over the country's murder count, which peaked to 45 on Sunday night with the stabbing death of 16-year-old Javano Williams.

I guess it all supposes which religion or denomination within a religion you follow.  The commandment "Thou shalt not kill" comes to mind, but I have heard some people explain that the proper translation is "Thou shalt not murder" which is not exactly the same thing.

I personally think that the death penalty should be a last resort, but there are criminals whose crimes are bad enough to warrant it.

Whether you lock them up or execute them, the key thing is get them off the street where they can't hurt people.

The thing is people who cold bloodedly, deliberately and viciously commit murder KNOW what the consequences of their actions are.  Yet they choose to do so.  When that choice is made,  in my opinion, they forfeit the to right live.  An eye for eye and a tooth for a tooth simply translates to let the punishment fit the crime.  You take a life, you swing.  You can pray for them, they can get salvation but they still must face the consequences.

Then you have folks who kill defending their lives or that of family.  People are also killed accidentally.  Even though those instances are tragic it's not the same as premeditated or cold blooded murder.

We live in a society where the judicial system is to bloody lenient and have all these obscene legalities and loopholes in the law that either allow murderers to go free or languish in jail at the taxpayers expense.  On the other hand this same system incacerates innocent men and women.  Catch 22.

That's  why  they  call it an Accident....
And  at  the  otherside..You have no right  to take  some one 's life  away.
I see it  like  this...Not life for  me  ..Not life  for you neither.
But ......Only God  can judge them.

Wow ... strong sentiments.
Am not sure ... when the state or individuals murder, are we serving the common good?

Am sure Hitler thought he did, albeit a very small interest group ... look at wars, the ethnic cleansing our generation has witnessed, the genocides ... have we as humanity gained because of it in the bigger scheme of things?

I must think about this some more.

There must have been some shake up in heaven ... who's in charge now ... a more loving God it seems ... one with empathy and more willing to forgive ... wonder where's the opposition hiding out ...

Hang them. Electrocute them, lethal injection them, burn them at the stake when they viciously, deliberately, wickedly, cruelly, murder, torture, and maim innocent people.
