    Posted: 16 Dec 2006 at 3:01pm
In 2007, we would like to update the recipe section and would like some of your input into how it should be created and organized.

Some of the ideas that we have include:
  • Instead of pages with hundreds of recipe links on them (such as the long recipe list), we will paginate them, so that the links are spread out over several pages and each page will load faster.
  • You will be able to sort and filter the list by name, country and person who submitted it.
  • An advanced search page that will allow you to search more ways.
  • A way to categorize the recipes so they will be easier to find.  For example, all soups would be in the soup category, Thanksgiving dishes in the Thanksgiving category, etc.
  • You will be able to rate a recipe without having to leave a comment.
  • Comments about a recipe will be integrated with the forum.  Each recipe will have their own special discussion in a special section of the forum.  There will be links to get back and forth from the forum discussion and the recipe.  The page with the recipe will show the last three comments and have a link to see all the comments.
  • People will be able to submit recipes directly into the recipe section.
  • A member's profile will have a link to the recipes they submitted.
  • Plus some secret stuff we want to surprise you with.
Right now we are in the stage of getting your input.  Please let us know what you want and how you want it.

Thanks for your input.

Hmmm.....
If you try to have a category for each holiday you will get a headache. I can see how meats or soups can easily have sub categories but holidays? Would you have a field showing suggested holiday for each dish? I usually know what broad category I want to serve on any given holiday. For instance, I like Beef Fondue on Christmas Eve because it is so easy to do as far as prep and cleanup and on Christmas day like to do a Turkey. and if we have turkey Christmas I want maybe fish or cook a big ol steak on the grill for New Years. I guess my point is , what good food would you not serve on a holiday?

Good point.  But there are sometimes traditional items that are eaten in each country.  For example, relleno or tamales are often eaten on Christmas and New Years in Belize, while turkey and ham are traditional in the United States.

I would think we would only do the major holidays that have traditional dishes attached to them.

It would be nice (convienent) to be able to click on "printable version" of a recipe to print it out without all the forum content!Nod

Scott, there seem to be a lot of good receipt that is posted and is not getting into the list, example "jamaican curry chicken" and a few that i posted. is there a critera for getting them posted. Many of us find it easy to refer to our receipe section than going to a cook book especially exotic Carribean recipes.
Just checking to make a better place to visit.

The old recipe submission form that was part of the recipe section broke and we haven't fixed it yet.

The recipe submission form will be part of the recipe section redesign.

I'll see about hurrying that up and getting that done.
