Its been awhile since Natalee Holloway disappeared in Aruba, triggering mass searches, aided by the Netherlands and the U.S. investigators.  With all the news coverage, the investigations, the court cases, the parents speaking out, has any of this effected your views of Aruba and how?

It is possible that you may agree with more than one answer above, but please select the one that best says how you feel.  If you need to elaborate, please post a reply to this poll.

IMO Aruba is covering up what happened to Natalee. Joran & his father IMO are responsible for what happened to Natalee.

I think saying "Aruba is covering up..." is a broad statement.  There are people who are trying to hide what happened (namely the person or persons who murdered Natalee and those related to the incident), but I doubt the entire country of Aruba or the entire government of Aruba is trying to cover up what happened.  In fact, I am sure there are many Arubans and many people in Aruba's government who want this resolved as soon as possible.  It's bad for Aruba's to not have this resolved, actually.  So it does not make sense that Aruba would intentionally try to cover this up.

Like all civilized countries, including the U.S., there is something called "due process of law" which must be followed.  Aruban / Netherlands authorities cannot simply convict someone because they look guilty.  All we have is speculation and incomplete evidence and tens of thousands of people arguing who is guilty or not.  Its hard to convict someone without convincing evidence, and an innocent person is most likely to go to jail for a crime he didn't commit in those cases.

I think that they are trying to downplay all the media hype surrounding the case so they can actually do their job.  The media and the public have a bad habit of judging people, even when they are innocent.

I am actually pleased that Aruba is following the law instead of jailing someone, anyone, to make this whole issue go away.  Once someone is convicted, much of the media hype will go away.  It actually hurts Aruba that this is not resolved already.  If Aruba were to cover this up, they would have picked some local criminal, planted some evidence, and blamed him on the crime.  Notice that did not happen.  That is a sign that they are actually trying to find out who really did this.

Hi Scott, I agree that the entire country of Aruba and their government are not to blame. I do believe there are some ALE involved in the cover up and some in the government. But no, not everyone of them. I worded it very wrong. I also want to say that no one may be covering up anything because their laws are different than ours but it appears some are covering things up.

This is hard for us to get a grip on because they do not give out reports as the US does. They say their system works. We shall see how it turns out in this case.

Even in the U.S., especially if there is too much media hype, the police will refuse to release details of the investigation.  I would be worried if they were.

This is true while the US gives updates and that helps us to not speculate.

I'm not saying Aruba's system is bad, just that we are not used to it and it makes it hard on our understanding.

True.  There have been cases where the shoe is on the other foot, and people outside the U.S. are confused about the U.S.'s judicial system and wonder if justice will be served or not.
