NEW YORK, NY – September 3, 2003 – The 10 days beginning October 24, 2003, to November 2, 2003, marks the third annual Eat! Drink! Barbados festival, a unique epicurean experience in a culinary environment with influences from Europe to Asia, combined with traditional Bajan recipes. Many of Barbados’ finest restaurants, including Daphne’s, The Cliff, La Terra and the Barbados Pavilion, will feature celebrity chefs like Sara Moulton, the host of the Food Network’s Sara’s Secrets.

This culinary extravaganza is being co-sponsored by Gourmet magazine, which is lending a number of its specialists who will be contributing their expertise in the scheduled events. The festivities will include a Welcoming Reception at the Palm Terrace in the Fairmont Royal Pavilion Hotel, where Gourmet-selected celebrity chefs such as David Waltuck (Chanterelle, NYC) and Jeff Tunks (DC Coast and TenPenh, Washington, D.C.) will bring some star power and mingle with guests. Resort Executive Chef Jean-Claude Plihon and Chef de Cuisine Michael Harrison, a Barbadian, will prepare a four-course menu featuring truly Bajan flavours and showcasing the superb fresh produce available in Barbados. Also featured will be numerous hands-on cooking demonstrations, wine-tasting events, a rum shop safari, a rum distillery tour at Foursquare Heritage Park and much more.

Hosted by Chef Michael Schlow from Radius and Via Matten in Boston.

Throughout the week, participants will learn from and be guided by the professionals as Gourmet celebrity chefs and experts conduct cookery demonstrations of the preparation and cooking of traditional Bajan produce and dishes – with a twist. After each demonstration, attendees will sample the prepared foods to judge the quality and taste for themselves.

The evening will begin with a cocktail reception featuring specially created drinks, and will be followed by a four-course dinner with a menu that will focus on 100 percent Bajan produce. A sumptuous feast will be prepared by members of the Barbados Culinary Federation and will demonstrate the culinary skills of highly talented chefs, as they craft dishes that will leave the taste buds salivating for more.
