Windows:

First & foremost - The wide range of application programs & games I can use with it.
Ease of upgrade & downgrade - I have formatted hard drive or upgrade/downgrade from one windows operating system to the other, some people have problems doing that - for me its a breeze.
For me better updates & such.

WOW! It's been a while.

To follow up on this post and shed some light.  I started using linux a while back due to my job as a System Administrator doing server side admin work and the company uses nothing but linux for the IT side. I have to say, I have seen the ligh now. Before I was a Windows user and would not try anything else, but now I only use it when I have to. There is a spare laptop and a spare desktop in my arsenal but they are only taken out when there is no alternative; which honestly, is VERY rare.

Linux has grown so much, I would strongly suggest that you try Ubuntu out; it is one of the many linux distro's (Distibutions) out there that have been taking the linux on the desktop endevour very serious. Granted there are still some things you can't do out of the box but with some google searching and posting on the blogs you should be able to get what you need; and for those times you certainly have several ways to go about fixing that issue. You can find an opensource equivalent of the software you can only get in windows, eg... Photoshop = Gimp, Microsoft Office = OpenOffice. There are so many choices for you in linux land and best of all, its more than likely the software you choose will be FREE. For the gamers out there, Linux is actually catching up, you also have crossover you can install. Several game manufacturers have ported games for linux users already and the list keeps growing.

For those faint of heart that think they cannot live with windows, you can download and burn a live cd and run the entire os from a cd.. Fully Functional, no trials,no  limits, no toning down, and you can run it as long as you want. You can also dual boot it beside windows or you can install linux as your only os then install virtualbox on it and run windows in virtual mode.

I prefer the virtual mode because if something goes bad and you knwo it will sooner or later with windows, you can simply backup your files, delete the virtual instance and wala no more issue. That's how I have windows running on my backup machine at work, keep it handy for those pesky jobs that involve windows users.

Hope that helped and or was insightful. If I can be of assistance post questions. I'll be more than happy to help.

Regards.
