I survive Hurricane Hugo in 1989; I made it through some smaller category ones; I stood outdoors doing Recon during Bertha in 2005(after Marilyn)( in the eye of the storm as they say, its so serene and peaceful, something to really watch); but the worst one for me was Hurricane Marilyn(2005), she was a be-a-tch; I was never more scared in all fo mey life and to see the destruction afterwards, was utter disbelief. To see human bodies along the waterfront(people who decide to ride the storm in their boats). During the aftermath, I had to do Recon, and it was not easy, I had to down a few hot heinekens(no power for a cold one)to make it through the first 2 weeks.

I've been through 2 hurricanes, onw being Ivan the Terrible and the other was Emily. But Ivan was the worst of the two which devastated my poor little country of Grenada.

Several, but the worse one was Hugo. People went crazy afterwards. Looting, looting, looting.

I even wrote a poem on the looting and it was published
in the newspaper. Here goes:

THE AFTERMATH

It's not that we did not give a hoot
When they said we went out to loot
We were confused
Seeking refuge
From the devastation of Hugo
We had no place to go
Since we had no roof over our head
Wondering tonight where we will bed
And how our children will be fed
We were scared
Trying to comprehend
If this was of the devil or Godsend
When we saw our beautiful Virgin Isle
Reduced to ruins for miles and miles
We thought we were in a strange place
And so we sought solace
By helping ourselves
From off the shelves
Asking in despair
When will we ever get back there
After Hugo went on the warpath
We just couldn't believe the aftermath
I asked for all things so that I might enjoy life; I was given life so that I might enjoy all things

Lordy, lord. You're just a baby, Abdiel. Good place to to, good age. I....I.... love your age bracket. So much to learn and put to use.

Great Poem Sandy...I can recall in Nick Friday's Lyrics " Hugo Made Me A Dan" ...You need to write one about that Terrible Woman called MARILYN...she really brought us down in 1995 in STThomas..even the Richest Man needed to stand in line for Relief...

Hugo made a lot of dem 'Dans'. I can't remember much about Marilyn. Oh, yes. St. Thomas got most of the damage. Chile, when dey giving out free tings, pride go out de door for some people.
