Well, the question's in the title. I'm of Carribbean ancestry, but I'm white. I know that in the Rastafarian religion, white men are considered the creators (and inhabitors) of Babylon, but is it possible for a white man to become "enlightened" and become a Rastafarian?

I've been playing around with the idea - I already live an Ital lifestyle (no pork, no shellfish, no processed foods, etc.), but is it far too hypocritical and wrong for a white man to try out the Rastafarian religion?

A true religion sees no color.  IT is a matter of how stong your faith is in the chosen religion.

That's like telling UB40 that they can no longer play reggae music because they are white.

You can be whatever you want.  The problem lies in getting others to accept you as such.

But, be true to your heart.  No matter who you be or what you do, someone, somewhere isn't going to agree with you.  So you might as well be true to yourself.  As long as you do that, and allow others to do the same, you will be at peace with yourself.

It is not a question of can you be, you already are. Your own convictions and your daily walk, that what makes the person what he is. I am a Jamaican I know the very foundation of the Rastafarian lifestyle, to some people it will be a contro versial issue like everthing else that expresses an opinion or choice,  if being a Rastafarian is your choice, be what you want to be and be proud of it.

Hm, all my life I have been in opposite to "other people" due to everything what I believe in - even though it's about eating healthly or belief. People (and my close persons too) always think that I'm mad and crazy about these things I believe in and do love. I love Jamaica, Africa, elephants, good (healthly) food, Bob Marley etc etc and I'm full and deep in these things and topics. BUT if you believe - you can't be wrong! Good luck!
Peace out

You can either live your life, or someone elses.  Your choice.

Your religion isnt about what other people think, surely? Is it not more about your compact with God to acknowledge the presence of a Higher Power in your life? I doubt Gor cares what colour you are, and any black Rastafarians who do are clearly seeking to inhabit Babylon themselves....

It does not matter what your color is, you are a person and god does not judge us on the pigmentation of our skin; that does not count. Be comfortable in your skin and live a holy life. God is already working in your heart, its not the hair style that makes you a rasrafarian, as you stated you are already a rasta in your heart.
