Zouk and Kompa Rhythms will again fill the Village when Mercury Sun organizes its annual show. It promises to be a blast; and the event has evolved. ?Three years ago when we first organized it, it was called ?Who?s the Boss; Zouk Kompa Night?. This year it?s ?Who?s the Boss; Zouk Kompa Fest. It is no longer just a concert. Just look at the number of artist that we will have performing that night,? said Francisco Machado, one of the organizers of the now famed show.
The line-up has doubled. The Zouk acts performing on stage will be Tania St. Val, YOLANDE VALTON, BAMBOOLAZ and Jeff Joseph of Grammacks Vin. The kompa artists of the night will be KREZI MIZIK (MIKAEL BENJAMIN/HAITIAN TROUBADOURS), BLACK ALEX, NICKENSON PRUD?HOMME (ZENGLEN), TOP Vice (featuring Robert Martino) and CARIMI. ?Last year we only had about five to six artists,? said Machado. He mentioned specifically Explosion Band and Susay Band as the local acts that will be performing as well.
He urged people to stay tuned. ?We have devised a ticket strategy. On April 14th there will be a hot ticket promo. Tickets will be available at all ticket outlets for US$ 20 on that day alone!? said Machado.
He added however that companies can purchase bulk tickets for US$ 20 price until Saturday April 14 2007, by contacting him on 599 5267963 or 590690- 360650 or by emailing email@example.com. ?Companies that buy bulk tickets can use them to reward their employees or to give to their clientele as a special incentive,? said Machado. Regular advance tickets will cost US$ 25 at the regular ticket outlets till the day of the show. ?Tickets will cost US$ 30 at the gate,? said the promoter.
St. Maarten/St. Martin Carnival
Two carnivals are held on the island each year - the one on the French side takes place during Lent, keeping the tradition of the French Creole Mas, while the other, the largest of the two, is celebrated on the Dutch side over a period of 17 days and nights with its main parade scheduled to coincide with the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen of the Netherlands, Beatrix.
Costumes and dancers jam and jump their way along the streets of Philipsburg- a 4 mile long parade of color and glitz to the beat of Calypso, Soca and other Caribbean rhythms. This year the Official date for the Grand Opening of St. Maarten?s 2007 Carnival festivities is Saturday, April 21, 2007. The schedule of events lined up includes the reggae concert on Thursday, April 26 and May 3 featuring Morgan Heritage and Buju Banton and the Soca Explosion I with Maximus Dan, Michelle Sylvester & Terry Seales on April 29th.
