 About

Carnival means weeks of events that bring you colorfully decorated floats, contagiously throbbing music, luxuriously costumed groups of celebrants of all ages, King & Queen elections, electrifying jump ups and torch light parades that wind their way through the streets at night, the Jouvert morning: the Children's Parades and finally the Grand Parade. This has got to be the greatest party ever!

Aruba’s biggest party of the year is a month-long celebration consisting of festive “jump-ups” (street parties), spectacular parades and creative contests. Music and flamboyant costumes play a central role, from the Queen elections to the Grand Parade, which winds it ways down city avenues to the delight of thousands of spectators. Street parties are held in various districts throughout the month, allowing everyone an opportunity to participate and dance to the season’s most popular brass band, steel band and roadmarch tunes. On the evening before the start of Lent, Carnival officially comes to end with the symbolic burning of “King Momo.”

Mighty Campo
After a long night of music celebration last night, early this morning the results are in and the winner for the Calypso of this year goes to Anthony Gario "Black Diamond" with his calypso "we blasted musicians will never learn" In the category of Roadmarch there's only one word to describe it: "Finally!" After being in the shadows of Mighty Talent for years, Mighty Campo finally on his own with a brand new band "Orquesta Search" Mighty Campo manages to pull of his own victory with his song. Winner for the Roadmarch of this year goes to "Orquesta Search" Mighty Campo "Wine & Choke". Congratulations to all the 2008 winners!

Aruba's 'Carnaval 2008'

  PICTURES of 2005

You have not lived until you have experienced the spirit of Carnival as it is celebrated in Aruba!

Where else can you find Antillean "tumba" music, the Calypso and steel bands of the English Caribbean, the salsa beat of Latin countries plus marching bands and a smattering of Dutch oom-pa-pa? The 2 month long celebration culminates with the all-day Grand Parade on Sunday, with everyone and everything all decked out.

Be sure to put on your shades, there'll be an awful lot of glitter out there! Monday is an official holiday for everyone to recoup and recover!

Aruban%20Carnaval
You can relax at the pool with daiquiris to replace all that precious liquid you lost jumping around.

But just when you think it is all over, there's the Farewell Parade and the burning of Momo, indicating the end of Carnival and the beginning of Lent. Symbolically, Momo's ashes are used on Ash Wednesday.

All in all, we think this is the perfect time for people to come visit us in Aruba. But so does everybody else! So make your reservations well in advance to come celebrate carnival the way we do, right here in Aruba!
